New Lenox, Illinois

New Lenox is a village located in Will County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 17,771. The Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission forecasts New Lenox will have a population of 101,725 in 2030.

Geography

New Lenox is located at 41°30'30" North, 87°58'14" West (41.508251, -87.970597). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 26.2 km² (10.1 mi²). 26.1 km² (10.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.20% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 17,771 people, 5,853 households, and 4,834 families residing in the village. The population density is 680.0/km² (1,760.5/mi²). There are 6,064 housing units at an average density of 232.0/km² (600.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.65% White, 0.30% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.84% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 3.17% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 5,853 households out of which 49.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.0% are married couples living together, 8.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.4% are non-families. 14.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.03 and the average family size is 3.39. In the village the population is spread out with 33.0% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 34.2% from 25 to 44, 19.5% from 45 to 64, and 6.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.9 males. The median income for a household in the village is $67,697, and the median income for a family is $72,947. Males have a median income of $53,301 versus $32,193 for females. The per capita income for the village is $25,161. 2.4% of the population and 1.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.8% of those under the age of 18 and 2.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
