New Jersey Sports And Exposition Authority
The
New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority
is a regulatory agency established by the State of
New Jersey
in
1971
to oversee the
Meadowlands Sports Complex
. Its first chairman was David A. "Sonny" Werblin.
As of 2004
, the NJSEA's purview has expanded to include
Monmouth Park Racetrack
in
Oceanport, New Jersey
; the
Atlantic City, New Jersey
Convention Center
and Boardwalk Hall, home of the
Miss America Scholarship Pageant
; and The Wildwoods Convention Center in
Wildwood, New Jersey
. The NJSEA also hosts the Sports Hall of Fame of New Jersey at the
Continental Airlines Arena
. In addition, the NJSEA built the
New Jersey State Aquarium
at
Camden
, and NJSEA funds were used to renovate various athletic facilities at
Rutgers University
. The NJSEA also contributed to the construction of the
Meadowlands Environment Center
in
Lyndhurst
, just across Berry's Creek from the sports complex.
