New Castle is a town located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,010.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.2 km² (2.4 mi²). 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and 4.0 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 65.13% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,010 people, 443 households, and 314 families residing in the town. The population density is 469.8/km² (1,222.6/mi²). There are 488 housing units at an average density of 227.0/km² (590.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.82% White, 0.59% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.50% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. 0.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 443 households out of which 22.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.6% are married couples living together, 5.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% are non-families. 23.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.65. In the town the population is spread out with 17.8% under the age of 18, 3.4% from 18 to 24, 20.8% from 25 to 44, 34.0% from 45 to 64, and 24.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 50 years. For every 100 females there are 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.1 males. The median income for a household in the town is $83,708, and the median income for a family is $93,290. Males have a median income of $57,375 versus $35,568 for females.
