Neosapien

The Neosapiens are a race of genetically engineered sentient humanoids featured in the science fiction cartoon Exosquad. They appear as large humans, seven to nine feet tall, with pale blue skin. They have four fingers, including two opposable thumbs, on each hand, and four toes on each foot. Completely hairless, they also have a brightly colored tattoo, called a brood mark, on their foreheads, denoting what brood they were created in. They were created by the Humans in the Exosquad universe (often called "Terrans" by Neosapiens) sometime in the early 2040's to serve as heavy laborers on Mars, as part of their terraforming efforts there & on Venus. This goes a long way toward explaining their appearance: the blue skin would make them easily visible on Mars, & their well-muscled physique would make them very strong workers. Neosapiens are physically far superior to baseline Humans. They can breathe in a far thinner atmosphere, with a much higher carbon dioxide content (which again makes sense for a people designed to work on Mars). They have greater strength, speed, stamina, and vision. Also, they require very little food and have no need to sleep. Indeed, Neosapians have been genetically optimized in virtually every bodily attribute. Nearly all of the Neosapians were slaves in the Martian mines prior to the recent Neosapian rebellion. Although they were granted increased rights following the Neosapien revolts of the late 2060's, including control of Mars, most Neosapiens still live in virtual slavery. Notable examples of free Neosapiens are Marsala, the only Neosapien mamber of Able Squad, and Phaeton, the Governor of Mars, as well as Phaeton's generals, Typhonus, Shiva and Draconis. Although there are Neosapiens of both genders, they are reproduced only by batched cloning in a brood chamber. They are incapable of sexual reproduction, and are in fact bred to be sterile by the Terrans in an unsuccessful attempt to control the Neosapiens. Later, during the second Neosapien rebellion (as featured on the cartoon episodes), the Neosapiens expanded their genome to create different subclasses of Neosapiens: the the Neomegas, who were intellectually superior even to Neosapiens, Neosapien crossbreeds with various animals, and the Neolords, which were the "best of the best" Neosapien warriors, with wings, claws, and other deadly features. The genetic engineering of the Neosapiens was imperfect, as all Neosapiens feared developing Automutation Syndrome. Although the exact nature of this disorder was never expounded upon, it supposedly involves a Neosapien's DNA becoming unstable, turning his or her body into a pile of talking mush. Phaeton, the leader of the second Neosapien rebellion, developed this disorder about halfway through the series, confining him completely to a life-support suit for the rest of his life. At the time of the end of the series, there was no known cure to Automutation Syndrome.
