Neighborhood Watch RanchThe Neighborhood Watch Ranch is/was a group of American farmers who opposed vehemently to the crossing of illega; immigrants into he United States by using the Arizona-Mexico border. The group became infamous during 2000, garnering some media attention for the way in which they tried to attract people from other states to join them: They would mail newsletters to many address across the United States, inviting people to come down and shoot immigrants, while "having some fun under the sun". The group was linked with the Ku Klux Klan; however, no evidence was ever found that they belonged to that organization. The group was investigated by various government agencies. Many of the Neighborhood Watch Ranch members complained of seeing immigrants, in particular Mexicans, committ criminal acts on their properties. They claimed that since the Mexicans were on their property at the times they allegedly committed these "crimes" (such as breaking and entering, vandalism, etc), they had the right to shoot them. Arizona police quickly answered that anyone who takes the law on their own hands without a proper reason (without being threatened with a dangerous weapon) would be charged with murder, and the group then became less loud in their proclaims and attempts to lure other people into joining. Nevertheless, the group still exists, as dwindling numbers of members still show their loyalty on local television by reaffirming their purposes and ideas. During their heyday, mst of the group's members were based in or south of Tucson. Public opinions about the group are divided: some call them patriotic, others call them a racist, hate group.
