Near-field Diffraction Pattern

In telecommunication, near-field diffraction pattern (Fresnel diffraction pattern) is the diffraction pattern of an electromagnetic wave, which pattern is observed close to a source or aperture, as distinguished from a far-field diffraction pattern. The pattern in the output plane is called the near-field radiation pattern. Contrast with far-field diffraction pattern. Source: from Federal Standard 1037C
