National Socialist Movement (United States)

The National Socialist Movement (NSM88) is the largest neo-Nazi Party operating in the United States of America, with "Units" and members in all 50 states and around the world. They co-operate with other "white nationalists", such as the Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Skinheads and National Alliance. NSM88 is led by Jeff Schoep, and claims to have members in most states and in some overseas countries. Membership is open "to all Aryans" (sic). The group says that they are inspired by Adolf Hitler, and its symbol is the Swastika. It has roots back to both the American Nazi Party under George Lincoln Rockwell, and the NSDAP which ruled Germany between 1933 and 1945. The National Socialist Movement was founded by Robert Brannen in 1974, Cliff Herrington was his deputy and was appointed to lead in 1983 after Brannen suffered a series of strokes. Both Robert Brannen and Cliff Herrington had been longtime supporters and so-called "Storm Troopers" of George Lincoln Rockwell's American Nazi Party. In 1994, Herrington appointed Jeff Schoep to leadership of the NSM88. Schoep had been in the Movement for many years as a dedicated member.
