National Human Genome Research Institute

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is a division of the National Institutes of Health, located in Bethesda, Maryland. The NHGRI was founded in 1989 as part of the National Institute of Health, and was part of the Human Genome Project, whose goal was to map the entire human genome. The was accomplished in April of 2003. NHGRI now works on studying and understanding not just the human genome, but other genomes as well.
