National Human Genome Research Institute
(NHGRI) is a division of the
National Institutes of Health
, located in
Bethesda, Maryland
. The NHGRI was founded in 1989 as part of the
National Institute of Health
, and was part of the
Human Genome Project
, whose goal was to map the entire
human genome
. The was accomplished in April of 2003. NHGRI now works on studying and understanding not just the human genome, but other genomes as well.
