Natas KaupasNatas Kaupas is a semi-retired professional skateboarder of Lithuanian descent. His professional carrer took place mostly in the 1980s. He is often referred to as one of the first true professional streetskaters. Natas invented and innovated many tricks. He was one of the first people to ride a wall without the aide of a transition. He was also responsible for the Wallie: using a wall to do an ollie, and the infamous Natas Spin: ollie to spin on a fire hydrant and land. But his most important invention was grinding on handrails, he tried to slide a handrail off the stage in a contest at Del Mar in 1985 which he didn't land, but that became the birth of handrail slides. Along with Mark Gonzales he later perfected hitting handrails, they became the first ones to 50-50 one as well. Natas was the first skateboarder to have a professional model shoe made in his name made by Etnies. He is currently head designer for Quiksilver, and has started his own board company, Designarium. Natas' strong art background led him to focus Designarium on artists rather than pro skaters. He has commissioned artists to inerpret his original Panther graphic into their own vision. Each board is produced in limited edition runs of 500. Kaupas, Natas
