nares (dict)

Nares

Nares are a bird's nostrils. The nares are located directly above the beak. On some birds, such as the budgerigar, the nares are situated within the cere. The nares of a pet bird should be dry and clean. If they appear to be clogged, moist, or are runny (like a runny nose), the bird should be seen by an avian veterinarian. Nares can also refer to nostrils on other animals, such as sharks, rays and sawfishes.
