Nambaryn Enkhbayar

Enkhbayar Nambar (Намбарын Энхбаяр) (born June 1, 1958) is the speaker of parliament of Mongolia. He was the Prime Minister of Mongolia from 2000 until 2004. He became leader of the opposition post-communist Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party in 1997 and led his party to victory in 2000 elections. He had been Minister of Culture between 1992 and 1996. He is credited with the revitalization of his party, moving it away from the time when Mongolia was a one-party state under the party's rule. His party lost almost half its seats in the elections of 2004, and in August 2004, he entered a coalition with opposition parties and gave up the position of Prime Minister, becoming Speaker of Parliament.
