Mustafa Ali ZibriMustafa Ali Zibri, (1938 to August 27, 2001) was a Palestinian leader. He was born Abu Ali Mustafa, in 1938, in the northern West Bank town of Arraba, the son of a farmer. He fled his home when Israel captured the town in the 1967 war and spent 32 years in exile, mainly in Damascus and Jordan. He took the name Mustafa Zibri as a nom de guerre. Zibri helped form the Marxist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in 1967. He was also one of the founders of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation rising to become a member of its ruling Executive Committee. He was for a long time deputy to George Habash’s leadership of the PFLP. In September 1999 after 32 years of exile, he returned to the West Bank under a deal struck between Yasser Arafat and Israel's Prime Minister, Ehud Barak. In July 2000 Zibri was elected as the new leader of the PFLP after Habash retired. He was killed in a targeted assassination by two rockets fired from an Israeli helicopter as he sat at his desk in Ramallah on August 27, 2001.
