Music Of Eastern Europe

Eastern Europe is a geographical area populated mainly by ethnic Slavs, as well as other minorities. The music from this area shares a historical Slavic tradition from the time of Kievan Rus. Note that no countries from Southeastern Europe and Central Europe have been included in the list below because their music is quite different from that of Eastern Europe. For example, Central European countries share a common history with each other, while Southeastern European music is more influenced by their common Ottoman and Byzantine history rather than the Slavic Eastern Europe. For the music of these countries, see Music of Southeastern Europe and Music of Central Europe.
