Mucius

In mythology, Mucius (also Gaius Mucius Scaevola) was a hero who saved Rome from the Etruscans, led by Lars Porsena. Mucius tried to kill the Etruscan leader but was captured by his guards. Porsena was impressed by Mucius' resolve and lack of fear. Mucius proved his bravery by placing his right hand in a fire and because of this Mucius was called Scaevola ("left hand"). Subsequently, Lars Porsena released Mucius.
