Mrs. Brown

Mrs. Brown (also released as Her Majesty, Mrs. Brown, presumably for the benefit of people who might not understand the original title) is a 1997 movie starring Dame Judi Dench, Billy Connolly, Anthony Sher, and Gerard Butler. The movie was an unexpected success in the cinema, where it was intended for a limited release. It was a co-production of Miramax, the BBC and WGBH's Masterpiece Theatre. The film tells the story of Queen Victoria and her relationship with her servant, John Brown, and the scandal it produced (the nickname "Mrs. Brown" implying an improper sexual relationship between the two). It was written by Jeremy Brock and directed by John Madden. The movie was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Judi Dench) and Best Makeup.
