MragowoMrągowo (German Sensburg) is a town in north-eastern Poland and the seat of the municipal administration (powiat). The town itself was established somewhere between 1404 and 1407 near a wooden fortress of the Teutonic Order, which was used as a spearhead during their expansion towards the polish heartland. Later, in 1444, the city was granted city rights and its name during the Middle Ages was either the German Sensburg or the Polish Żądzbork. The town itself remained a small hamlet in the mostly rural area around it. Agriculture, fishing and the richness of the surrounding forests provided the sources of income for the local population. In 1897 was connected to the railway system, which went from Biskupiec to Kętrzyn. During WW II the town was largely destroyed and lost almost 20% of its buildings. After the war the city remained a rural city with some 10,000 inhabitants. This number stayed almost constant until the late 1980. In the 1990, mostly due to economic changes, as well as political, the city gained some influence in the region and grew quickly into a regional center of economics and touristic business. These days the city has tried to regain some of its former beauty and tries thereby to represent the region. The city lies in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodship (since 1999), previously in Olsztyn Voivodship (1975-1998).
