Adherents of Latter-day Saint theology believe that Moroni (BoM Arabic موروني Mūrūnī) is a prophet who lived in North America in the late 4th century.

Not to be cofused with Captain Moroni, a figure who lived much earlier as recorded in the Book of Mormon.

Adherents believe that:

Moroni's father, Mormon (also a prophet), compiled and abridged the plates from the many records of their people over the centuries
Moroni engraved:

Moroni first appeared as a resurrected being (or angel) to Joseph Smith, Jr. in 1823.
Moroni delivered gold plates to Joseph in 1827. The plates are the record of Moroni's people, ancient Americans known as Nephites and Lamanites
Joseph translated one-third of the plates into a book called the Book of Mormon after which Joseph gave the plates back to Moroni.
