Moonlight Shadow (Stories)

Moonlight Shadow - short novella published by Japanese Author Banana Yoshimoto along with Kitchen. Written while she was in university, it won several awards and is considered a prelude to Kitchen. Inspired by the song Moonlight Shadow, by Mike Oldfield, it is the story of a young woman who comes to terms with losing her boyfriend in a car accident. Ripe with themes echoing the depth of Japanese culture, it is indicative of Yoshimoto's plain and clean writing style that manages to portray the immense emotions of nostagia, loss, and hope.
