Mondo Generator

Formed in 1997 by former Kyuss bassist Nick Oliveri (a.k.a. 'Rex Everything'), this punk-ish metal project, once only a side project, has now seen two full length albums, a spot on the Lollapalooza tour, and several worldwide tours spanning several months in duration. The debut album, Cocaine Rodeo (Southern Lord), was recorded in 1997, but wasn't put out until 2000, when Oliveri was urged by friends to release it. The album featured Oliveri, Queens of the Stone Age/Kyuss vet Josh Homme (a.k.a. Carlo Von Sexron), Rob Oswald, Kyuss/Fu Manchu drummer Brant Bjork, and others. After the release, the band received almost cult status, as they rarely played live shows and hardly promoted it. That changed in 2003, when a full line-up formed behind the sophomore release, A Drug Problem That Never Existed (Ipecac). It featured earthlings?/Queens of the Stone Age/Yellow #5 axe-man Dave Catching, Molly McGuire of earthlings?/The Spores/Yellow #5, as well as Bjork, and of course Oliveri. After Oliveri's departure from Queens of the Stone Age in February 2004, which he had been a member of since 1998, plans were announced for a new Mondo Generator album within a year, and touring plans continue.
