MmmmphingMmmmphing (the number of letters may vary) refers to the sounds made by a person when he or she is gagged, yet still attempts to speak, thus making only incoherent sounds. It is sometimes also called "gag talk". To BDSM fetishists, mmmmphing is a good way to demonstrate how helpless a BDSM "bottom" is, and that alone is enough for some people to derive sexual pleasure. Because of this, a bottom can try to arouse the top by making repeated attempts to talk, even though it is usually impossible. The origins of the 'word' most likely came from comic books that are not necessarily BDSM-related. A damsel in distress who is bound and gagged can say nothing but "Mmmmmph.", "Gnnnng.", "Hmmmffmmmph." or many other variations in the comics. This was picked up by a sub-group in the BDSM community that is fascinated by these sounds as a fetish in themselves. Some amateur bondage literature have also used the 'word' as both a verb and a noun. See also
