Misfile (Webcomic)Misfile is a web comic by Chris Hazelton, begun in March 2004 and published on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Story In Heaven the entire universe is maintained by descriptions, consisting of numbers, stored in filing cabinets. The specific drawer in which a page of numbers is filed determines what those numbers define (the number that could be a person's hair length could just as well become the thickness of a whale's blubber if moved to Whale drawer). The Angel Rumisiel (black sheep of his angelic family) is a drug-using punk, and is currently covering up the fact that he misfiled (hence the name of the strip) some pages from Ash Upton's file, and swept under the carpet some pages of Emily McArthur's. The pages missing from Emily's file define the last two years of her life, during which she was the ultimate high school grind, desperately studying to get into Harvard to please her mother. Now that no one remembers those last two years she is now wondering if they are worth going through again. Ash's file was moved from the boy human drawer to the girl human drawer, and now everyone thinks he's always been a she. Ash and Emily (whose files are in error) are the only humans aware that anything has 'changed' Rumisiel is trying to earn his way back into heaven by doing good deeds on Earth while covering his filing error. Unfortunately he really doesn't understand Earth and still has a substance abuse problem. Characters - Rumisiel - The black sheep of a highly respected angelic family. He has given up trying to live up to the example of his father and brother and has instead turned to drugs. He has been kicked out of heaven for smoking pot at work. He has a history of substance abuse with both marijuana and alcohol. He is trying to do good while on Earth but is havng trouble.
- Ash "XR4Ti Ash" Upton - High school junior who drives a 1989 XR4Ti turbo and has little interest in anything but motor racing. Currently he cannot drive to school, having lost parking privileges over colliding with the principal's car while practicing skids. Ash is actually a skilled racer (but has probably gotten this far without a major accident only because of luck). Due to Rumisiel's file error Ash is now Ashley. The upside to the misfile is having met Emily, who Ash is developing strong feelings for (which is extremely frustrating since he now can't do anything about them).
- Emily McArthur - Very bright (having gone from not knowing what a clutch pedal is for to helping Ash soup-up the XR4Ti virtually overnight by reading) and has spent the last two years studying to get into Harvard to satisfy her mother's vicarious need for academic success. She even skipped her own prom to study. Now that Rumisiel's error has erased the last two years of her life Emily is reconsidering what makes a life worth living.
- Dr. Edward Upton - Ash's father. He is a nationally respected gynecologist but somewhat lacking in people skills. He is also Emily's gynecologist, which much to her discomfort he publicly admits. His wife left him because of his overly controlling personality and he vowed not to repeat the mistake with Ash, which has left him seemingly cold and distant from his son (though he's much more demonstrative with Ashley).
- Vashiel - Rumisiel's brother. As an inducted angel of the second circle he is incapable of lying or concealing falsehood (at least according to Rumisiel).
