MinscMinsc is the name of a popular computer role-playing game (CRPG) character from the Black Isle Baldur's Gate series of games. Appearing in both the original Baldur's Gate (and its add-on Tales of the Sword Coast) and the sequel Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (and its add-on Throne of Bhaal), the character was always accompanied by a pet hamster named "Boo", represented as an icon in Minsc's inventory. Minsc is widely regarded as one of the most popular NPCs (non-player characters) in computer gaming, recently receiving high rankings in polls run by IGN and Gamespot.com. Minsc is a bald ranger from the Forgotten Realms country of Rashemen. Originally a berserker sworn to guard the witch Dynaheir, Minsc becomes a mercenary and self-proclaimed "defender of good". In Baldur's Gate II, Minsc comes to in the same prison as the main character, Imoen and Jaheira, and is in a brutal rage as a result of Dynaheir's murder. He travels with the main character if allowed and develops long-standing bonds with Jaheira, Imoen, Nalia, and Aerie (whom he protects as his new witch). Minsc insists Boo is in fact a miniature Giant Space Hamster - a Dungeons and Dragons creature from the Spelljammer series. Some suspect Boo may be just an ordinary hamster. Quotes by Minsc can be found on the Baldur's Gate series page.
