The highway is a scenic highway and is part of the
Lake Superior Circle Route
that runs through Minnesota,
Ontario

Michigan

Wisconsin
. This roadway was designated
U.S. Highway 61
up until about
1990
. This highway (including U.S. 61) is the road

. It is one of the only Minnesota state highways to carry the same number as a U.S. highway in the state.
