Minnesota State Highway 36Minnesota State Highway 36 is a highway in Minnesota. A portion of the road in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region is a major freeway. The entire highway is currently 17 miles (27 km) in length. Termini The roadway runs from Interstate 35W in Roseville, Minnesota to the Minnesota-Wisconsin border in Stillwater, where it becomes Wisconsin State Highway 64. Notes Highway 36 crosses (or at least gets halfway across) the St. Croix River via the historic Stillwater Lift Bridge. The road becomes WI-64 in the middle of the bridge. However, planning is taking place to replace the bridge, which reached its practical capacity in 1990. Because the bridge is considered historically significant, this has become a heated issue. The highway used to be significantly longer, turning southward and connecting to what is now Minnesota State Highway 77 (Cedar Avenue Freeway). The road didn't originally reach the state border. Part of Minnesota State Highway 212 was redesignated as Highway 36. From Rosevelle eastward to Interstate 694 and a few miles beyond, the road is a limited-access freeway. For about 4 miles (6 km) outside of the I-494/694 loop, the freeway section has a speed limit of 65 miles per hour (105 km/h). References 36
