Millihelen

A millihelen is a humorous measure of beauty. The term is derived from the application of the standard SI prefix for "one thousandth" to the name Helen. The Helen referred to is Helen of Troy, who, in Christopher Marlowe's play "The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus", is described as having a "face that launched a thousand ships". The possession of a millihelen of beauty therefore gives the owner a face purportedly capable of launching one ship. Geeks and other scientifically inclined people may sometimes derive units such as the microhelen or the nanohelen, to refer to even smaller quantities of beauty.
