Geography

Milledgeville is located at 35°22'38" North, 88°21'52" West (35.377337, -88.364339). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.2 km² (1.6 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 287 people, 135 households, and 95 families residing in the town. The population density is 68.8/km² (178.1/mi²). There are 154 housing units at an average density of 36.9/km² (95.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.61% White, 0.00% African American, 0.70% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 135 households out of which 16.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.3% are married couples living together, 8.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.6% are non-families. 26.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.13 and the average family size is 2.55. In the town the population is spread out with 14.6% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 20.9% from 25 to 44, 27.9% from 45 to 64, and 28.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 50 years. For every 100 females there are 85.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.5 males. The median income for a household in the town is $29,583, and the median income for a family is $30,833. Males have a median income of $31,000 versus $23,750 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,688. 22.3% of the population and 16.0% of families are below the poverty line.
