Millburn, New JerseyMillburn is a township located in Essex County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 19,765. It also includes the hamlet of Short Hills. Geography Millburn is located at 40°44'2" North, 74°19'13" West (40.733751, -74.320141). According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 25.6 km² (9.9 mi²). 24.3 km² (9.4 mi²) of it is land and 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.25% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 19,765 people, 7,015 households, and 5,604 families residing in the township. The population density is 813.6/km² (2,106.2/mi²). There are 7,158 housing units at an average density of 294.6/km² (762.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 88.91% White, 1.10% African American, 0.05% Native American, 8.40% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.43% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. 2.04% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 7,015 households out of which 44.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.6% are married couples living together, 6.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.1% are non-families. 17.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.82 and the average family size is 3.19. In the township the population is spread out with 30.2% under the age of 18, 3.2% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.2 males. The median income for a household in the township is $130,848, and the median income for a family is $158,888. Males have a median income of $100,000 versus $51,603 for females. The per capita income for the township is $76,796. 1.5% of the population and 1.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.4% of those under the age of 18 and 1.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
