Military Of Bosnia And HerzegovinaMilitary of Bosnia and Herzegovina: Foreign armies In 1995-96, a NATO-led international peacekeeping force (IFOR) of 60,000 troops served in Bosnia, beginning on December 21st 1995 to implement and monitor the military aspects of the agreement. IFOR was succeeded by a smaller, NATO-led Stabilization Force or SFOR. The number of SFOR troops was reduced first to 12,000 and then to 7,000. SFOR was in turn succeeded by an even smaller, EU-led European Union Force or EUFOR (Althea). As of 2004, EUFOR numbers ca. 7,000 troops. Domestic armies The military forces of Bosnia itself are divided between: - Army of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Vojska Federacije, VF), whose the air and air defense forces are subordinate commands within the Army
- Army of the Republika Srpska (Vojska Republike Srpske, VRS), whose air and air defense forces are subordinate commands within the Army
Two military parts have a central command, unified in 2003/2004.
