Milford is a borough located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 1,195.

Geography

Milford is located at 40°34'10" North, 75°5'39" West (40.569457, -75.094083). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²). 3.0 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.74% water. Milford borders Alexandria Township and Holland Township. Milford also borders the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is connected to Upper Black Eddy, Bridgeton Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania by the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission's free Upper Black Eddy-Milford Bridge over the Delaware River.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,195 people, 469 households, and 323 families residing in the borough. The population density is 401.2/km² (1,037.7/mi²). There are 484 housing units at an average density of 162.5/km² (420.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 97.57% White, 0.17% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.33% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 1.26% from two or more races. 2.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 469 households out of which 33.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.1% are married couples living together, 5.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% are non-families. 27.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.11. In the borough the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 33.3% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 102.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.3 males. The median income for a household in the borough is $54,519, and the median income for a family is $62,167. Males have a median income of $46,500 versus $31,765 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $25,039. 3.7% of the population and 1.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.7% of those under the age of 18 and 6.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
