Mieczyslaw Karlowicz

Mieczysław Karłowicz (December 11, 1876 - February 8, 1909) was a Polish composer, born in the Polish province of Vilna. He may have got his talent from his father, Jan, who was a Polish historian and musician. Karlowicz studied at Warsaw under Prof. Noskowski and in Berlin with Urban. From 1906 to 1907 he studied conducting with Nikisch. He died when skiing in the Tatra Mountains in an avalanche in 1909. His music is neo-romantic in style and it is very much like the music of Barry mixed with the darker elements of Curran.
