Midnight Yell PracticeMidnight Yell Practice (often locally, just Midnight Yell) is a regular event held at Texas A&M University. A "Yell Practice" is a replacement for what other schools may call a "pep rally." The principle is the same: to excite the crowd to cheer Texas A&M on to victory. A Midnight Yell Practice, on the other hand, is held prior to every Texas A&M football game at midnight. If the game is held at home, the Midnight Yell is held at Kyle Field. If away, there is a yell on campus 2 days before the game, and at a site designated before hand in the opponent's city. For example, if the annual game against the University of Texas is held in Austin the Midnight Yell is held on the steps of the Texas Capitol. Once the crowd is led in their yells and the fight song is sung, the lights go out and, traditionally, Aggies are supposed to "mug" or kiss their dates. If no date is present, single students light their cigarette lighters, commonly referred to as "flicking your bic," to make it easier for two dateless people to find each other. Some overzealous students will bring tiki torches, road flares, or blowtorches to Yell Practice in hopes that the larger flame will more effectively attract others. External link
