Middle Village, Wisconsin

Middle Village is an unincorporated community in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The U.S. Census Bureau has defined an area around the community as a census-designated place (CDP) for statistical purposes. It does not have any legal status as an incorporated municipality. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 351. The area designated as a CDP covers portions of both Shawano County and Menominee County. Since it is part of the Menominee Indian Reservation, the community is more closely associated with Menominee County.

Geography

Middle Village is located at 44°56'2" North, 88°44'34" West (44.933853, -88.742805). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 17.9 km² (6.9 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 351 people, 94 households, and 76 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 19.6/km² (50.6/mi²). There are 133 housing units at an average density of 7.4/km² (19.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 5.98% White, 0.00% African American, 94.02% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 5.70% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 94 households out of which 60.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 30.9% are married couples living together, 38.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.1% are non-families. 9.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.44 and the average family size is 3.55. In the CDP the population is spread out with 43.9% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 13.7% from 45 to 64, and 8.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 23 years. For every 100 females there are 90.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.4 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $16,667, and the median income for a family is $11,071. Males have a median income of $21,875 versus $9,750 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $6,568. 42.0% of the population and 55.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 52.9% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
