michio kushi

Michio Kushi (born 1926 in Japan) brought modern macrobiotics to the United States. After World War II, Kushi studied with the founder of macrobiotics, George Ohsawa, in Japan. Since coming to America, Kushi has founded the East West Foundation, the Kushi Foundation, and the One Peaceful World and the Kushi Institute and written over 40 books. Kushi has lectured about philosophy, spiritual development, health, food and diseases in many conferences and seminars around the world . Kushi received the Award of Excellence from the United Nations Writers Society. In 1999, the Smithsonian Institution opened a permanent collection on macrobiotics and alternative health care in his name. Kushi studied law and international relations at the University of Tokyo, and completed his studies at Columbia University. Kushi now lives in Brookline, Massachusetts. He has five children and thirteen grandchildren.
