² Pokmon Red/Blue/Yellow
Mewtwo is a fictional character from the Pokmon franchise. It is widely considered to be one the most powerful Pokmon.

Name Origin

The name "Mewtwo" originates from the name of Mew, the Pokmon from whom its genes originated, and from the number two, since it is a modified clone of Mew.

Information

From the video games' Pokdexes: Mewtwo was created by a scientist after years of horrific gene splicing and DNA engineering experiments. Because its battle abilities were raised to the ultimate level, it thinks only of defeating its foes. It usually remains motionless to conserve energy, so that it may unleash its full power in battle. Even though the scientific power of humans created this Pokmon's body, they failed to endow Mewtwo with a compassionate heart. Mewtwo can be obtained only after defeating the Elite Four and returning to the Cerulean Cave. Considering Mewtwo's power, and also the fact that not many wild Pokmon in Red, Blue and Yellow can compare, it is usually recommended that you save the Master Ball for capturing it. In Pokmon Red, Blue, and Yellow, the burned out building where the player finds the key to the Cinnabar Island Gym has several diaries scattered about which tell the story of Mewtwo. Something that seems to have been either forgotten or ignored officially is that they say Mewtwo is Mew's child, or at least Mew gave birth to Mewtwo. In the anime, Mewtwo was genetically engineered by scientists under Team Rocket's leader, Giovanni, who desired to have the ultimate Pokemon. He was created using DNA from the 151st Pokemon, Mew. When Mewtwo became aware that it was no more than a puppet, it devastated Team Rocket's base and escaped. Mewtwo then rebuilt the island lab where it was 'born' and lured Pokmon trainers to it with the intention of creating genetically enhanced clones of the trainer's Pokmon as part of a larger revenge plan against humanity. Mewtwo had a change of heart however as Ash Ketchum sacrificed himself to stop a duel between itself and Mew. With that Mewtwo wiped out the trainers' memory of the incident, and took itself and the clones into reclusion in the Johto region. But during all this time, Giovanni still sought Mewtwo, which later led to a confrontation between Mewtwo, Giovanni, and Ash and his friends.

Super Smash Bros. Melee information

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mewtwo is available as a unlockable character. It is unlocked after you play 20 hours (divided by the number of players per match--4 players playing for five hours straight can unlock it) in VS. Mode or 700 VS. matches. The easiest way to do this is to have a two-player game, disable all items, give both players 99 lives, go to the Final Destination level, place both players in the middle, and leave the game on overnight. But the game cannot be paused, or else the time will not matter. The recommended characters are Bowser and Donkey Kong (in 3-player cases, Ganondorf) most likely because even with all items disabled, barrels, capsules, and crates still fall, which may explode and cause light characters to go flying off the screen. (This is also most likely the reson for 99 lives.)

Mewtwo's B-button moves

  • Shadow Ball (B), a energy ball that you can charge up. When you release it, it will do up to 25% damage. It can damage foes in the vicinity while Mewtwo is charging it. The charging animation strongly resembles that of the Kamehameha from Dragon Ball Z.
  • Teleport (B+up), a move that will transport Mewtwo over a long distance without him getting damaged.
  • Confusion (B+forward), a move that can flip over your opponents and can be used to deflect projectiles. A projectile reflected with Confusion does no damage, unlike other reflection moves.
  • Disable (B+down), a move that can be used to set an opponent up for a smash hit or combo, but requires Mewtwo and his opponent to be facing each other. If you perform this move twice in succession, it will send the opponent flying really far.
