Metamorpho

Metamorpho is a fictional character appearing in comics published by DC Comics. A founding member of the Outsiders, he has also been a member of the Justice League. Rex Mason is his real name. While in an Egyptian Pyramid, Rex Mason was exposed to a radioactive meteorite which changed him into the elemental man. He was changed drastically, and was able to shape shift and change into any element found in the human body, or any combinations thereof. In the first issue of Grant Morrison's JLA, he died (technically, became "inert") attempting to help his fellow superheroes safely make planetfall as their satellite was destroyed. He has since been resurrected and reappeared in The Outsiders, attempting to reclaim a portion of himself that had broken away from the whole during the planetfall incident, and gained its own sentience. Rex Mason and this piece eventually decided that each of them should exist separately. The piece has adopted the name Shift, and has lost the "human body" limitation on his elemental powers.
