Merrion Gates

The area called Merrion Gates, in Dublin, is roughly where the northbound Dublin DART line goes inland before the station at Sydney Parade, a little further south. The lands of the School for the Viusally Impaired are here. There were gates on the road here once, separating Dublin from the coastal territory to the south. Nowadays, it is the border between Dublin City and the borough of Dun Laoghaire that crosses the Rock Road at Booterstown Marsh or Bird Sanctuary. Currently, there is no operational station at the Merrion Gates, in the 19th century there was one on the then Dublin-Kingstown line. It is believed that with the current large mixed-use development under way on the former lands of the nuns at Merrion Gates, this station will be re-opened.
