Meow (Usenet)

Meow is a self-sustaining flamewar-like phenomenon which increased the signal-to-noise ratio of the newsgroup alt.college.college-bowl in 1996; it persists today. The ongoing event was inadvertently begun by Harvard University students through a series of newsgroup invasions and cross-postings across various newsgroups, including: The phenomenon takes its name from the adoption by several of the posters of the persona of Henrietta Pussycat from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. One post read, in full, "Meow meow Matt Bruce meow meow Henrietta Pussycat meow meow Presidents of the United States of America meow Kitty?" For reasons still unclear, Matt Bruce was given the epithet "Commandante Meow-Meow".
