mendrisio

Mendrisio is a city in the Southern part of Switzerland, in Canton Ticino. Mendrisio is the capital of Switzerland's southernmost district, called Mendrisiotto (which roughly comprises all swiss territory to the South of Lake Lugano). Mendrisio is the seat of the Architecture studies department of the University of Italian speaking Switzerland (USI). The city's surrondings are the main wine growing regions in Canton Ticino. The city is also known for its typical Good Friday procession, when a live recreation of Christ's passion is enacted (without any blood or violence). In 2002 the population was 6,127.
