Melville Y. StewartMelville Y. Stewart is Professor of Philosophy at Bethel College in Minnesota. He has a B.A. from Gordon College, and M. Div. from Westminster Theological Seminary, an S.T.M. from Andover Newton Theological School, an M.A. from the University of Connecticut, a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and he did post-doctoral work at Oxford. Work His main area of interest is philosophy of religion. He is author of The Greater-Good Defence, An Essay on the Rationality of Faith (Macmillan/London, St. Martin's/New York, 1993), co-editor and contributor to Problems in Christian Philosophy (Progress- Academy Press, Moscow, 1994), and editor of Philosophy of Religion, An Anthology of Contemporary Views (Jones and Bartlett, Boston, London, 1996. Russian translation in process, Vitali Tselishchve). He served as Visiting Professor at St. Petersburg State University, St. Petersburg, Russia 1992-93, and has been invited to teach at Peking University for the fall term, 1996. In 1987 and 1988 he hosted the Midwestern Regional meetings of the Society, and in 1993 he was convener and read a paper at the first SCP meetings in St. Petersburg, Russia, and is convener of St. Petersburg Symposium II to be held April, 1997: topic, "The Atonement." He serves as co- convener and has presented papers at the Peking University Philosophy Symposia 1994, 1995, 1996-. He is Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee for Outreach to Russia for the SCP.
