Meganekko

Meganekko is Japanese slang which translates to "Glasses (-wearing) Girl". It's also often used in anime and manga fandom to refer to females who wear glasses, especially when it is considered their most attractive trait. Their usage may or may not have anything to do with a character's eyesight. Because glasses are a more neutral 'costume' than nurse or maid outfits, they do not have a stereotypical personality associated with them. However, they are sometimes identify with stock characters who are iincho (high school class representatives), workaholics, or bossy characters who are quite sweet once someone gets to know them. The anime series G-on Riders (a pun that also means 'glasses-on') rather bluntly caters to this wardrobe choice. The most famous meganekko in current American fandom is probably Yomiko Readman of the Read or Die (ROD) series. See also moe.
