Megadeath

Megadeath is a term coined by the US military in the height of the Cold War, which means one million deaths. Many megadeaths were expected on the event of a nuclear war against the Soviet Union, for instance. This word, minus an 'a', later became the name of the heavy metal band Megadeth.
