Medjay

The Medjay were an ancient people of Nubia. They became part of the Ancient Egyptian militia as scouts and minor workers. The original Medjay date back to the Old Kingdom A newer term of "Medjay" refers to a division of ancient Egypt's police during its 18th dynasty (a part of New Kingdom). The Medjay were also well known in the Egyptian army. Some very important tasks were overseen by Medjay officers. They were instrumental in the protection of Thebes and the royal complex at Deir al-Madinah.
