Medieval Metal

Medieval Metal typically contains lyrics and sometimes music about and from Medieval times. The most well known is Satyricon's "Dark Medieval Times". This offshoot of black metal contains numerous references to castles, knights and bloody battlefields. A German band, In Extremo, blends bagpipes, harps, sitars, and other medieval instruments with electric guitars to make their own style of "Medieval metal." Another German band, Tanzwut, blends electronics with medieval instruments to make "electronic medieval metal." Similar to this band, is the band Qntal, but they do not use guitars, just electronics.
