Mccook, Illinois

McCook is a suburb of Chicago located in Cook County in the U.S. state of Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 254, which is the lowest population of all municipalities in the county.

Geography

McCook is located at 41°47'55" North, 87°49'57" West (41.798542, -87.832432). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.8 km² (2.6 mi²). 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.76% water. McCook is home to a small population, but a large amount of heavy industry, resulting in a large tax base.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 254 people, 119 households, and 69 families residing in the village. The population density is 37.7/km² (97.6/mi²). There are 125 housing units at an average density of 18.6/km² (48.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.28% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 4.72% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 7.87% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 119 households out of which 19.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.5% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.0% are non-families. 39.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.13 and the average family size is 2.86. In the village the population is spread out with 16.5% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 91.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.0 males. The median income for a household in the village is $43,125, and the median income for a family is $58,333. Males have a median income of $40,625 versus $26,429 for females. The per capita income for the village is $24,996. 1.8% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 4.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
