rapper
and former member of the crew
3rd Bass
. After two extremely acclaimed albums with the other members of his crew (
DJ Richie Rich
and
Pete Nice
),
The Cactus Album

) and
Derelicts of Dialect

1991
), Serch launched a solo career with
Return of the Product
(
1992
,
Def Jam
), which launched a hit single with "Back to the Grill", an extension of
Main Source
's song and featuring
Nas
. Serch, who served as Nas's manager, also collaborated with the rapper on
Illmatic
, which is one of the most critically well-respected albums of the
1990s
. Serch then retired from performing and ran a promotions company, as well as becoming a radio host. He was the first white DJ at
Detroit
's
WJLB
station since
Casey Kasem
in the
1950s
.
