Mazda C Engine

The C family was Mazda's first large piston engine design.

PC

The 1.0 L (985 cc) PC engine featured a 70 mm bore and 64 mm stroke. It was an 8-valve SOHC design and was designed for rear wheel drive longitudinal applications. The PC produced 45 hp (33.6 kW) and 51 ft.lbf (69 Nm). Applications:

TC

The 1.3 L (1272 cc) TC had a 73 mm bore and 76 mm stroke; a bored and stroked version of the PC. Ued in the 1970, 1973, and 1977 Mazda Familia.

UC

  • 1.4 L UC - 1416 cc (77x76 mm) - A larger-bored version of the TC, used in the 1978-1980 Mazda GLC. Produced 70 hp.

D5

The original Luce/1500 used a 1.5 L (1490 cc) SOHC I4 with square 78 mm bore and stroke. Later named the D5, it was used in the 1980-1983 Mazda GLC Wagon.

1600

The 1.6 L (1590 cc) engine was a stroked (to 83 mm) D5. Output was 70 hp at 5000 RPM, with maximum torque of 82 ft.lbf at 3500 RPM with a single Nikki carburetor. Applications:

1800

A stroked (to 94 mm) 1.8 L (1797 cc) version of the 1500/D5 was used in the 1966 Luce/1800. Output was 104 hp (77.6 kW) and 109 ft.lbf (148 Nm). A later evolution of this engine was used in the Mazda 929. It featured SOHC 8-valve heads on an 80x88mm bore and stroke for a total of 1769cc. Engine output was 83 hp (62 kW) and 99 ft.lbf (134 Nm).
