Maxwell KaneMaxwell "Max" Kane is the unreliable narrator of two children's books, Freak the Mighty and its sequel, Max the Mighty. His father is in jail because he killed his (Max's) mother. Max lives with his maternal grandparents, Grim and Gram. Rachel hails him as a hero and calls him Max the Mighty. Others think he is mean, like his father. But he wouldn't hurt a fly. Max used to have a friend called Freak, but Freak died in the first book. Freak the Mighty was the basis of a Golden Globe-nominated movie titled simply "The Mighty". In the movie, he is played by Elden Henson.
