Matt Hughes is also the name of 6 time welterweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. His Mixed martial arts record is 38 wins and 4 losses. His most recent defeat came at the hands of B.J. Penn, but when Penn left the UFC to compete in other events, he surrendered the welterweight title, which Hughes recovered in his absence. Hughes is known for his extreme strength, wrestling ability and grappling skills. He trains as part of the Militech Fighting Systems team.
