Mateus Soares De Azevedo

Mateus Soares de Azevedo is a writer and journalist from Minas Gerais, central Brazil, where he was born in 24 January, 1959. He studied Journalism at the Catholic University and modern languages at the University of the State of So Paulo, where he now works and lives with his family. He also holds a Masters degree in History of Religions from the University of So Paulo, with a thesis on the actuality of the Perennial Philosophy. For many years he worked as a journalist in the international affairs section of major Brazilian newspapers, such as "O estado de So Paulo" and "Jornal da Tarde". He is the author of four books and dozens of articles and essays dealing with the importance of traditional religion and spirituality in the contemporary world, some of them translated from the original Portuguese into English, French and Spanish. His latest book is "Iniciacin al Islam y al Sufismo" (Ediciones 29, Barcelona, Spain, 2004). He has contributed articles to Dossier H- Frithjof Schuon (France), Sophia (USA) and Sacred Web (Canada). He has also translated books by C.S. Lewis, Frithjof Schuon, Martin Lings and Rama Coomaraswamy into Portuguese. Mateus Soares de Azevedo is the editor of the anthology "Ye Shall Know The Truth: Christianity And The Perennial Philosophy" (2005). He also contributed the essay "Sages and Saints of Our Epoch (in the light of the Perennial Philosophy)" in that volume.
