Mass TriageMass triage refers to the rapid sorting (triage) of patients following a mass casualty event, such as a bioterror attack, or the like. Mass triage systems The START system is one of the commonly taught rapid mass triage systems. In the UK, another commonly used triage system is MIMMs (Major Incident Management System). The UK Armed Forces are taught a system of mass triage called BATLS/BARTS. This grades casualties from Priority 1 (most urgent) to Priority 4 (expectant, i.e. likely to die). Steps to mass triage - Casualty Collection Point (CCP)
- Personal Effects Collection Point
- Disrobing Tent (DT)
- Decontamination Tent
- Redressing Tent
- Holding area
- Triage, treatment, and transportation area (for transport to Alternative Care Facility).
Alternative Care Facilities Alternative Care Facilities (ACFs) are places that are setup for the care of large numbers of patients, or are places that could be so set up. Examples include schools, sports stadiums, and large camps that can be prepared and used for the care, feeding, and holding of large numbers of victims of a mass casualty event.
